For this month’s mix we’re tracing the global impact of Jungle Drum and Bass to the Netherlands, with this b2b mix by FFF and Coco Bryce for Radio Melkweg Amsterdam.
Off the back of his seminal Night On Earth E.P, and multiple big label releases, Coco Bryce is one of the most-respected names in contemporary Jungle Drum and Bass. But Tommy De Roos AKA FFF is another dutch Junglist and Breakcore pioneer still pushing the sound forward.
While Tommy has been producing since the mid 90’s, one of his first big breaks came in the form of his snarling 2001 track ‘Ultraviolent‘ on the label Necromaniacs Industry. He’s been churning out contemporary Jungle weapons ever since. Keep an eye out for his label 3am Eternal and releases on labels like Future Retro, Myor and Fresh 86 as well as older breakcore experiments on his Orange Socks cassette label.
Tommy opens this mix with a few loungey, soulful rollers before leaning into the darker side of contemporary Jungle.
Expect plenty of hardcore-infused hoovers, fluttering guttural breaks and distorted b-lines until he hands over to Coco Bryce at the hour mark. From there we’re guided through the Myor Label Boss’s signature moody meloncholic taste in breaks, before he closes the mix out with Sully’s cinematic modern classic 5ives.
